Want a quick idea of what your car is worth before you pick up the phone? Use the calculator below to get an estimated cash range for your vehicle in Auckland. Pick your make, body type, year and condition, and it will give you a realistic ballpark based on what cash-for-cars buyers here actually pay — a blend of reusable parts value and scrap-metal weight.

Estimate your car’s cash value

This tool gives an estimate, not a firm offer. The only way to know exactly what your car is worth is a real quote — which is free and takes about a minute.

How the estimate is worked out

A cash-for-cars offer comes down to two things: the reusable parts a wrecker can recover and resell, and the scrap-metal weight of what’s left. The calculator weighs four factors that drive both:

  • Make. Vehicles with strong local parts demand — Toyota, Subaru, and most 4WDs and utes — carry more value because their components resell quickly across Auckland.
  • Body type and weight. A heavy SUV, 4WD or van contains far more recyclable metal than a small hatch, which lifts the base figure.
  • Year. Newer vehicles have more in-demand, higher-value parts still in circulation.
  • Condition. A running car with a current WOF and rego sits at the top; a non-runner, a damaged car or a stripped shell steps down from there — but every one of them still has a cash value.

What the ranges actually mean

The quick-cash channel isn’t the same as a private sale. Selling to a wrecker trades a bit of top-dollar for speed, certainty and free removal — you get a firm number, the car is gone today, and there’s no listing, no tyre-kickers and no towing bill. For an old, dead, damaged or unwanted car, that’s almost always the better deal. For a tidy, late-model runner, you may squeeze more out of a private sale if you have the time.

Getting the most accurate number

When you’re ready for a firm offer, have these handy: the make, model and year; whether it runs and has a current WOF and rego; and a note on anything good (low kilometres, recent work, new tyres) or bad (damage, missing parts). A couple of photos help us quote to the dollar. From there we come to you anywhere in Auckland, pay on pickup, and sort the NZTA paperwork.
