A replacement high-voltage battery pack can cost anywhere from around $5,000 to well over $20,000 depending on the model — frequently more than an older EV or hybrid is worth. When the numbers don't stack up, selling the car for cash is the practical choice.
A degraded or dead pack still has real value: individual modules and cells can be reused or recycled, and the electric motor, inverter, charger and control electronics are all in demand. Add the body, wheels and other parts and even a non-running EV is worth a firm cash offer — not a disposal fee.
